Plenary: Climate Change: Change Business, Change us

(BFA Main Hall, Level 2, ICC)

Climate change is already changing the way we do business and the way we live. The Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2012 and the recent Bali UNFCCC marked major steps mankind has taken in responding to the challenge. Is climate change an irreversible trend? What further significant implications will it have for the way we do business and live in the foreseeable future? How can the wholesale participation of everyone, i.e. government, business, NGOs, individuals, be achieved?

The Future of Internet– Web 3.0?

(Dong Yu Grand Ballroom B, Level 1, ICC)

It has been argued that convergence of the technology, media and telecommunications industries will conversely mean that technical quality will no longer be a barrier, and that content quality will come to the fore again as the key competitive differentiator.  Although, or perhaps because, we are in the thick of the era of Web 2.0, an era which is being dominated by the internet platform and its nurturing of increasingly diverse web-based communities fostering social networking, information exchange and collaboration, Web 3.0 is inevitable and just a question of time. Web 2.0's harnessing of the collective intelligence of a multitude of individuals is making Web 3.0 the next imperative where the internet evolves its capability to perform more intelligent selection and distribution of the information. What are the implications for the Asia region? To what extent will virtual infrastructure replace the need for physical infrastructure in nurturing and unleashing the intellectual and creative power of people across Asia to generate value for Asian economies?

Competing in a Global Marketplace

(BFA Main Hall, Level 2, ICC)

Asian enterprises have been rapidly developing the financial wherewithal, technological sophistication, and independent brand strength, but the creativity to sustain these can only come from sufficient and quality human capital. The global expansion potential of Asian business and its successful facilitation by governments is in danger of being constrained by a talent shortage not just in Asia but globally as a result of rising demand and a declining working-age population. At the same time, Asian businesses must now compete while addressing a set of challenges not previously faced by prior generations, such as diminishing natural resources, environmental degradation and climate change. How are all these factors redefining the business models of Asian companies trying to scale their capacity strategically and compete globally?

Closing Plenary: Sustainable Development, Sustainable Partnerships: Towards a Win-Win Future

(BFA Main Hall, Level 2, ICC)

Sustainability has highlighted the ubiquity of responsibility and the complexity of managing multi-stakeholder issues.  It has also helped crystallize the changing role of leadership, its processes and outcomes, moving from an exclusive domain based on hierarchy and commanding authority into one that is becoming all inclusive based on consensus and viewpoints.  Whether it is in business, government or with people, our approach to leadership is changing.  Involvement and contribution from stakeholders are becoming an integral part of opinion-forming and decision-making.  Indeed assuming leadership responsibilities entails a complex myriad of developing sustainable partnerships, realistic roadmaps and improving existing processes that is both viable and equitable to all stakeholders.  It seems an impossible task.  But more then ever the changing role of leadership is now defining and shaping our future.  It is influencing the way we communicate and interact with each other but also the way in which we see each other.  What are the fundamental core-values of leadership in the next decade?  How are we to benefit from the emerging role of leadership?
