Chinese equities stopped the downward trend of the previous trading day to open higher Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rising 0.09 percent, to open at 2,690.86 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index edged up 0.1 percent to 10,156.9 points at opening.
