The People's Court of Fangshan District in southwestern Beijing yesterday has moved to increase the transparency of judicial procedures by opening suspension of enforcement processes to the public.
The suspension of enforcement process allows a judicial decision to be temporarily suspended until certain conditions are met by the designated parties.
For example, if a party is held liable for damages but does not have sufficient funds to pay, the judge can order a suspension of enforcement until the person is solvent and able to pay damages.
Previously, litigants were unable to request information from the court concerning orders for the suspension of enforcement, which was the cause of widespread complaints from the public, said Tong Haidong, vice-president of the Fangshan court.
He said the new move will increase transparency in the area of suspension of enforcement, so that litigants can learn more about the operating procedures and progress of such cases.
People can call the information hotline at 8936-4860 to inquire about the current conditions of judicial enforcements or go directly to the court to find information from specified computers, which have been set up in a reception room, said Tong.
